About Me
My name is Victoria Liguori. I am an aspiring educator in the field of social studies. I hold a Professional Certification in Social Studies Education. In addition, I was on the Dean’s List while attending SUNY College at Old Westbury. I was inducted into the National Honor Society for Social Studies, Phi Alpha Theta. I also served as an Ambassador for the School of Education at Old Westbury and participated in an interview for the college’s accreditation. I obtained my Master’s degree in Social Studies Education (7–12).
I completed my student teaching at Hempstead High School. During this time, I taught courses such as Global History I, Humanities, AP Seminar, Criminal Law, and Participation in Government. In my classes, I successfully implemented effective classroom management strategies. I consistently planned, modified, and delivered lessons while re-evaluating my instructional strategies. I worked with diverse learners, many of whom had IEPs and were ENL students.
I served as a 0.2 Social Studies teacher and 0.8 permanent substitute teacher at Oceanside High School. I taught a Global History II & Geography class for ENL students. This experience allowed me to deepen my understanding of differentiation and develop strategies to promote student engagement. I created activities involving current events, trivia, and review games to make lessons more engaging. I also encouraged collaborative learning whenever possible while implementing tasks provided by permanent teachers. Additionally, I provided teachers with feedback after each class I covered using a form I created.
I also took on a leave replacement position for a social studies teacher from November to February in 2023. During this time, I taught Global History I for ENL students, Global History & U.S. Skills classes, and several sections of U.S. History. Teaching skills-based classes allowed me to develop targeted activities to strengthen students’ historical thinking skills, particularly for those who struggled. This experience also allowed me to refine my teaching style as I worked on my master’s thesis. It gave me the opportunity to explore what works best for students across different classes and learning needs. Each year, my passion for teaching and my commitment to supporting my students continue to grow.
During the 2024–2025 school year, I began a new position at IS 93, a middle school in Queens. This role has helped me further refine the instructional strategies I use in my classroom. I have also worked to build strong rapport with my students and create a safe, supportive environment where they feel comfortable expressing themselves. This year, my school’s initiative focuses on student questioning and promoting higher-level thinking. Through my work this year, I had the opportunity to take a course through Harvard University to further develop my understanding of effective student questioning techniques.
